Basics

The Law of First Mention states that the first time a word appears in the scripture, sets the “tone”, associations, and basic meaning of the word throughout the rest of scripture.
Ask, in order to exercise the mind of Christ, “What do the Scriptures say?”
Who is it being said to?
Who is saying it?
Does it apply to Christians in this dispensation?

A living sacrifice

So you are to give your body to God as “a living sacrifice” for three reasons:

Because everything you have is of God (Rom 11:36).
Because God has been merciful to you (Rom 12:1).
So you can know the will of God (Rom 12:3).
